Sasagawa, the Taste of Authentic Japanese Cuisine

The newly opened Sasagawa at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur is the place to go for authentic Japanese fine dining. Offering an array of fresh seafood air flown four times a week from Japan, it’s definitely worth a visit. Here, discerning patrons can truly experience the delicious juxtaposition of simplicity and splendour of Japanese cuisine.

The stylishly appointed restaurant is named after its Executive Chef, Hitoshi Sasagawa. The name serves as a declaration of the chef’s great passion in his artistry and commitment to quality. Chef Sasagawa personally spends a great deal of time on the concept of the menu and prides himself on his joy in recreating traditional Japanese dishes. With five years of training under reigning Iron Chef Tadamichi Ota in Osaka, he fully appreciates the importance of cooking from the heart and serving each meal with warmth and sincerity.

Destination Malaysia has been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to savour a seven-course meal during our recent visit. The verdict: Sasagawa’s fare comes highly recommended! The Tsuki menu features an appetizer of soft Japanese tofu presented in three different styles, complemented with caviar, spinach, chrysanthemum, green chilies and anchovies. For sashimi, fresh seafood of the day has been especially flown in from Japan, comprising snapper, tuna belly, prawns and salmon. The third course is Wagyu beef simmered with daikon radish and pumpkin. House special chawanmushi makes up the next course, followed by deep-fried ebi and vegetable tempura. The gastronomic offerings end with a grand finale of individually steamed salmon rice garnished with salmon roe, accompanied by miso soup and seaweed pickles. For dessert, there’s the enticing choice of vanilla, black sesame or green tea ice cream or yuzu sorbet.

The food at Sasagawa is designed to impress. Chef Sasagawa’s skills lie not only in his cooking techniques but also in the impeccable display of his creations. Dishes here are beautifully presented in immaculate detail, making each meal an edible work of art. The menu is exceptional as each item is crafted using a different cooking method. If you’re looking to splurge, try out Yuki, a nine-course dinner set consisting of an appetizer, sashimi, simmered dish, grilled dish, pot stew, steamed dish, deep fried dish, oshokuji and dessert.

Sasagawa also offers four selections of bento lunch sets: the Chef’s Special Bento, Tempura Bento, Sushi Bento and Teppan Bento.
